Weekend Race Report May 9, 2010
San Antonio athletes had to make a choice this weekend, The University Oaks Criterium Bike Race or The Rookie Triathlon. IconOne was equally represented at both and congratulations to all athletes who participated.
At the Rookie, Hunter Overly finished 8th overall male and improved over a minute from his time last year. Ryan Martinez opened his 2010 triathlon season with a 5th in AG U19.
Meanwhile Savana Overly finished 2nd AG U19 and managed to best her run time from last year after a stress fracture incurred this spring.
Results
At the crit, the Mens 5 and Womens 4 fields were combined so Kevin Keenum, Mason Riley, Shirley Gonzalez and Jen Kennedy all stood on the starting line together. The gun went off and Jen Kennedy, in her first crit ever, quickly showed that she is a natural. She led going into the final lap and the "boys" could be heard saying "catch the girl, catch the girl!" Unfortunately they did but GREAT job! Several other IconOne athletes watched their first crit race and will join in the fun May 23rd.

Going to Spain as Team USA coach!
The World University (FISU) Championship will be held on May 30, 2010 in Valencia Spain and I was invited to be the coach of the USA team!
Everyone has a select group of people who, when they call, you simply just have a seat. The conversations are rarely difficult but there is always a good reason. Last Wednesday I got one of those calls and after the ensuing shuffle (especially to find my passport which was in the government system for renewal) I am on my way!
This is an exciting opportunity to join a great support staff that includes Steve Kelley, Team Director; Brent Hamula, trainer/physio and Todd Anderson, mechanic.
10 athletes (5 males and 5 females- one of whom is IconOne's Alexandra Weber!) total will be competing for individual and team recognition. Wish us luck and follow IconOne on Twitter for updates from the event.
Weekend Race Report May 2, 2010
Congratulations to Zach Martin for his season opening performance at the Windcrest Freshman triathlon. His time was good enough to finish 3rd overall indicating great things to come this season. Results
Meanwhile, Audrey Manchester also excelled winning her AG at the CB&I Triathlon on Saturday. Enroute, she set a goal of posting top transition times and did just that in T1. Great job! Results
Unfortunately, at the Texas State High School Triathlon Championships, Patrick LaBrode discovered what it is like to collide with at truck. Please keep him in your prayers as he recovers with a broken collarbone and shoulder separation. BUMMER.

Weekend Race Report April 26, 2010
Galveston, Texas. LoneStar Triathon Festival
April 24, 2010.
Harsh winds met athletes racing this past weekend creating conditions that caused the cancellation of the swim on Saturday. Bummer for the Sprint and Olympic Distance athletes!
That didn't deter Audrey Manchester from winning the 12-14AG in her first start this year.
Jen Kennedy finished 2nd AG even without the swim she loves so much! Ironically, after 2 starts, she is still trying to finish an official olympic distance race but did accomplish the goal of qualifying for AG Nationals in Tuscaloosa, AL in Sept.
Finally, Kim Oerkfitz set a PR by 14min in the 70.3 race!
Great job Ladies!

Shelley Probber Qualified for Team USA
Rage Triathlon. Lake Mead, NV.Shelley Probber is going to Germany to compete in the Long Course ITU World Championships on July 31, 2010!
Shaken(Frozen) by the difficulty of 58degree water temperatures, Shelley quickly found herself in 3rd place going onto the bike and over 10min behind 2nd (required for Team USA invitation). Moving forward she conquered the mental demons of doubt, hung tough on the bike and finished with a PR run to gain 2nd place and realize her goal.
Great Job Shelley! We are so very proud of you!
Collegiate Nationals Results
Tough day for the athletes racing in Lubbock. Heavy rains, cold lake water, and extreme wind all created very difficult conditions for the athletes. The swim course was shortened, race organizers threatened mandatory bike dismounts at low water crossings, and the run was changed to (2) loops with a significant off-road muddy section.
Alexandra Weber led out of the water, had difficulty on the bike but held steady on the run to finish 9th overall (7th undergrad).
Keith Yoho has no idea where he finished since he managed to leave his timing chip in his bag. He did cross the start and finish lines and but wasn't in the top 3.
Mark Saroni benefited from the short swim to come out with the race leaders. However, the day before bustle of finding a hotel room (when the realization that camping in the frigid, wet conditions wasn't the best plan) cost him valuable pre-event training/stretching and ultimately the ability to maximize performance on the bike. He came across in a disappointing 32nd. The good news is that he ran quite well!
Jennifer Kennedy guided blind athlete Tiffany Kohnen to a successful finish and time of 3:16! AWESOME.
Today was a pivotal event for all athletes and each experienced Ups, downs, and steep learning curves. Congrats to each of you for working through a less than optimal day and for embracing its challenges. That is what champions are made of.

Youth Olympic Games Qualifier
Congratulations to Daniel Vertiz and Hunter Overly on their performance in Monterrey, Mexico last night.
Daniel came out of the water with the front pack but experienced a bit of trouble on the very technical bike course and found himself in a tough position coming into T2. He quickly set onto the run and completed the 3rd fastest run split of the day to move into 7th. Even though his performance was great, USA athlete Kevin McDowell took the overall Gold and the American Youth Olympic Games opportunity.
Meanwhile, Hunter Overly found himself in the middle of the second pack swim and maintained his position throughout the race finishing 29th overall out of 79 total competitors. We are looking forward to building on his experience.
Great Performance for both athletes and an amazing start to the season. Full Results

The 2010 Season
I can already tell that this is going to be a very tough year for me. The growth is wonderful and athletes are amazing but I simply can not travel to all the races and be in multiple places at once. This weekend was a sure sign as I sat WAITING for athlete results to be posted or text to me. Gosh that is so hard!
Mark Saroni made a statement winning the 25th Annual Athens triathlon by nearly 1:30 after 18month away from multisport. It is good to have you back!
Shelley Probber sent a message to her competitors that injury last fall was merely a speedbump. She set a PR at Moe's better Half Marathon by over 5minutes!
Alex Weber rocked her first pro race at Florida's Great Escape Triathlon finishing 6th in a field that included Olympian Sarah Haskins-Korteum. She now holds the elusive Pro/Elite status with USAT and has an amazing year planned.
Great Job Athletes!
